What is Cat People?
Cat People is a gathering place designed for indoorsy folks. Come enjoy a warm atmosphere, cozy activities, low-pressure social events, and cat companionship* in a safe, comfortable environment. Bring friends, make new ones, or enjoy your solitude.
*So, here’s the deal.
We need to have some extensive fire safety equipment installed before we can house cats in the space.
Are we bursting with excitement to have shelter cats here? Yes.
Is there plenty to do at Cat People, outside of hanging out with cats? Yes.
Therefore, are we going to wait for the equipment and cats to be here for us to open? Noooo!
So, now what?
We’re in The “People” Phase right now! Days and hours of operation are a bit condensed. (Later in the summer we’ll be expanding.)
While you’re here, you might meet one cat. His name is Paprika, he is perfect, and he’s a permanent staff member of Cat People.
We have so much to show you, even before the adoptable cats are here. This includes…
Over 40 board games and jigsaw puzzles
Arts & crafts materials of all kinds, for all levels of crafters
A library of books and movies to enjoy in our “living room” area
A classic Nintendo 64 system (Super Smash Bros, anyone?)
Events where you can meet other Cat People who like the same games and crafts as you
The Magic Room, perfect for D&D groups and other meet-ups
Unlimited coffee, tea, and cocoa
All of the above is included in the price of admission, and your visit lasts as long as you like.
In The “People” Phase, admission is $15 per person, with discounted rates available for parties of 5 or more.
We hope you’ll come see everything we have to offer — your presence and feedback in our first couple months of business is invaluable!
Our Story
Hi! We’re Colby and Jackson. We moved to Denver in 2023 from our hometown of Anchorage, Alaska.
We liked a lot about Denver right away, but we were struggling to “put ourselves out there.” Events are expensive, drinking and crowds aren’t really our vibe, and making friends as an adult is hard! We got used to just staying home — even though we wanted to be trying new things and meeting new people.
Meanwhile, we started fostering cats and kittens from the Aurora Animal Shelter. It brought SO MUCH JOY into our lives. We got to watch kittens grow up — sometimes from only a few days old, eeeek — and help young adult cats in need of some extra attention. We started thinking about a dream we had seven years ago, to open up a cat cafe…
And then we got the idea to combine it all. We would create a place for indoorsy folks like us to make friends, to find community without stress, and to spend time with cats.
We hope Cat People is a place where things feel easy. Make a craft or play a game together, and skip the awkward small talk. Or do your own thing, like curl up in the corner with a book, a cup of tea, and a cat on your lap.
Cat People is what we wish existed when we got here. A place to make something, play a game, meet a friend, fall in love with a cat, and most importantly, a place to comfortably exist and belong.
We're glad you found it.
