ADOPTION
Our cats come from the Aurora Animal Shelter and Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue. We’re thrilled to offer an opportunity for prospective cat owners to find someone new to love — while helping lessen the load at two very busy shelters.
Read about our adoption process below!
-
Our cats fall into one of these categories:
Available to be adopted
Already has an adoption in progress
Will be up for adoption soon
A permanent resident of Cat People
-
Read about each of our current residents on our Meet the Cats bulletin board, or talk to a staff member. If a cat will be happiest and safest in a home without dogs, other cats, young children, etc. we will let you know!
-
Hooray! Nothing makes us happier than cats finding homes. Cats may only be claimed for adoption in person during a Cat People visit.
When you’ve picked a cat to adopt, we’ll take a $20 deposit, which can be applied later towards your adoption fee.
Our cats come from two shelters. For AAS kitties, we’ll give you a paper application. For RMFR kitties, we’ll direct you to their online application. -
Adoption pickups occur on Wednesdays, when we’re closed for regular business. Your pickup appointment must take place on the soonest upcoming Wednesday.
-
Proof of online payment (for RMFR cats) or the remainder of the adoption fee (for AAS cats)
For adoptions from Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue, you’ll be contacted for direct payment after your online application has been approved.
For adoptions from Aurora Animal Shelter, we will take your payment at the time of pickup. You can give us cash or a card, or you may write a check to Aurora Animal Shelter.

We hope you and your cat become the best of friends! And we hope you keep in touch and send us cat pics!!!
But, not every single adoption is a perfect match. We’ll do our best to prepare you for what life with your new cat will be like. Keep in mind: it takes a newly adopted shelter animal 3 days to decompress from the big change of environment, 3 weeks to get comfy and develop routines, and 3 months to feel truly at home.
If you decide the adoption is not working out, please directly contact whichever shelter your cat came from.
We do not make a profit from adoptions; all adoption fees go directly to our shelter partner. Find their current adoption fees listed below:
