A Day of Appliqué

Fabric in various bright patterns are cut up and stitched together, like pieces of appliqué. An orange polka dotted house with a purple door and a red-and-white checked roof, a checkered tree with oranges, and a denim cloud.

Appliqué is a decorative technique where small pieces of fabric are attached to a larger background to create pictures, patterns, or textures. Fabric may be attached by sewing (by hand or machine) or with iron-on fusing.

Louisa, Cat People’s resident Queen of Crafts, will show you how to decorate with appliqué. We’ll supply the sewing materials (including a couple machines), glue, and fun fabrics. Your job? Bring something you’d like to customize — clothing, throw pillow covers, or even something non-fabric, like a terracotta pot or a picture frame.

This activity is included with the cost of admission.
